Joint Base Lewis- McChord is a military base located near Tacoma, Washington. This joint base is a product of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission. It consists of the 2010 merging of Army Base Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base. This joint base is home of ICorps (Army) and the 62d Airlift Wing (Air Force). The base is also home to Madigan Army Medical Center. The Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) Head Quarters oversees the installation facilities and services providers of the base.
Before their merger, the 62ndwing was activated in 1947. The Air Force Wing has continuously been a key player in providing relief support, humanitarian rations and combat airdrops. Fort Lewis was originally established in 1917 as Camp Lewis. Over the years it has modernized and become the most requested Army duty station.
Joint Base Lewis-McChord is a major training and mobilization base. McChord Air Force base allows deployment of aircraft while the bases location can easily access major waterways.
JBLM operates like its own city and offers many resources for military members and their families such as military housing, commissary and exchange privileges, fitness training center, health and wellness facility, many MWR programs, youth programs, child development centers, base vet, dog park and many more.
