Under the general direction of the Director of Sales, is responsible for lead development, meeting and event sales, customer services as required, contract preparation of booked events, and meeting annual production goals. The Sales Representative shall be primarily responsible for selling events from assigned market segments under certain criteria into the Convention Center. Also, has responsibility to assist the National Sales Managers in the development/solicitation of state, regional and national accounts, as needed. This position provides own administrative support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for achieving as well as striving to exceed established annual sales goals and team goals through active sales efforts in booking and contracting future events. These responsibilities include responding to inquiries, meeting and event solicitation, site inspections/facility tours.
Responsible for all actions required for timely requests of SDCCC license agreements for booked events.
Prepares monthly sales reports of sales production and related activity, and other reports as requestedReview industry publications and directories, and other destinations’ convention calendars to generate new “qualified” leads and prospect sources.
Participates in local/regional sales arenas and trade association meetings as assigned, to promote the facility and develop relationships with regional meeting and event planners and visitor industry peers.
Works with convention and facilities staff to assist in assuring customer satisfaction.
Assists Sales Team in the development/implementation of special client promotional events (i.e. receptions, client events & client FAMS) directed towards specific markets or objectives.
Prepare project and trip reports as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university preferred; minimum two (2) years experience in sales or marketing position, preferably in hospitality industry (hotel or convention center); convention services or service sales; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to compose reports, business correspondence, sales proposals, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from current and prospective clients, groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
All driving positions must have a valid, current California driver’s license (non-resident students and military must have a valid driver’s license from their U.S. state of residency) and a clean driving record. For current SDCCC employees no points within a rolling 12-month period that places a restriction on the ability to drive (i.e. only permitted to drive to work and home).

Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and diverse clients in a fast-paced sales environment. Ability to relate to and communicate with clients and businesses in a professional manner. Knowledge of the hospitality industry concepts, practices and procedures, highly desired. Demonstrate computer literacy and experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and sales & marketing applications, such as electronic client database. Ability to work consistent weekday business hours, as well as participate in occasional activities during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in an office at a computer workstation and access information from a computer and use a telephone. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the Sales department suite, as well as maneuver throughout the Convention Center facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various physical, city and county-wide, locations during sales calls and meetings with clients. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Offices for this position are located within the administrative office area on the mezzanine level of the Convention Center. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate with noises originating from persons talking within the office and office equipment being operated. During meetings or site visits with potential clients, work may be located outside the facility with exposure to both indoor and outdoor environments. The outside environment includes exposure to uneven street pavement and sidewalks, railroad tracks, and high levels of pedestrian, vehicle and pedicab traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to exhaust fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock for both indoors and outdoors environments. During the course of our business the employee will be exposed to large crowds and public settings.

This position promotes growth through new business development to a large retail client by offering DS Services product home and office delivery service.

- Making sales presentations to prospective Company customers at pre-identified retail or public locations and commercial accounts to achieve equipment and revenue growth targets.

- Physically able to lift equipment and bottles weighing 43 pounds, as needed. Ability to set up and take down in store booth each workday.
- Able to stand for long periods of time as performing job duties.
- Work week is Wednesday — Sunday; weekends required and occasion overnight travel is required.
